HEALTH® CORPORATION HELPS FUND PHOTOSCREENER MODIFICATIONS New style film will provide the end user with a clearer image at a more affordable price. Riviera Beach, Fla., Feb 21, 2002 - Medical Technology & Innovations, Inc (MTIV.OB), the company known for innovative medical devices and products, announced today new plans to adapt current PhotoScreeners to accept a new film format. School Health® Corporation of Hanover Park, Illinois, the exclusive distributor of the PhotoScreener to schools and public health departments, contributed to the costs of the modifications. The PhotoScreener is a unique and patented vision-screening device and is the first portable screening device that can detect all refractive errors, media opacities (such as cataracts), anisometropia, strabismus and astigmatism. PhotoScreener is the first device that allows vision screening to be carried out almost anywhere. Among its features are the ease of use, low operating cost, and the use of instant film. Additionally it is easily operated by non-professionals and costs thousands of dollars less than other screening devices. "Since product introduction, we have delivered about four thousand PhotoScreeners to an eager marketplace. We were determined to find a solution to the uncertainty of the current Polaroid film situation," stated MTI Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Jeremy P. Feakins. "We received many calls from customers encouraging us to work out a solution so the PhotoScreener could accept a different type of instant film with the same high standards. During the recent reorganization filing by the Polaroid Corporation, we were informed that the type 337 film, currently used in the PhotoScreener, would not be manufactured beyond the middle of this year. We simply had to find a way to keep the PhotoScreener in business". Mr. Feakins added: "Our engineers have successfully worked on a solution to the problem with Polaroid Corporation, and we have developed the means to modify current PhotoScreeners at our production facility. MTI is committed to providing a smooth process to our users. We very much appreciate Polaroid's contribution to the retrofit program even during their current hardship" "We also appreciate the much needed financial cooperation of our primary distributor, School Health®" continued Mr. Feakins. Mr. Rob Rogers, Vice President of School Health®, stated:" We are pleased to assist our business partner MTI in finding a solution to the PhotoScreener modifications. We believe that the social benefit of PhotoScreening far outweighs the commercial value and we are committed to the program" During the course of the Polaroid reorganization, the decision was made to discontinue production of the unprofitable film lines, including the 337 film. According to Ed Gaffney, Senior Manager at Polaroid Corporation, "the new style film, 667, will provide the end user a clearer image and a more affordable price. The 667 film has been in production for many years and Polaroid has no plans to discontinue production in the foreseeable future. There are just too many applications out there using the 667 film." For details on how to return the PhotoScreener to MTI for modifications, customers are invited to call the PhotoScreener Hotline: 1-800-277-1710, or visit www.photoscreener.com and navigate to the section 'PhotoScreener Retrofit'.
