Introduction
The FM Extractor is specifically
designed to assist certified athletic trainers in removing the facemasks
from an injured player's helmet, allowing first aid administration
without helmet removal. Its unique notched cutting edge solidly
grips a variety of facemask fastener styles. High-leverage handles
deliver shearing force to the sharp carbide blade. The FM Extractor
can cut fasteners in seconds without slipping. You can rely on the
patented design and durable construction of the FM Extractor for
facemask removal season after season.

Product
Overview and Description
 |
The circular
notch of the non-cutting end allows the unit to grip the facemask
bar, thus using the facemask bar to its advantage unlike other
devices that are hindered by the presence of the facemask
bars. |
 |
When
positioned using the circular notch the forks that extend
from the non-cutting section keep the fastener from slipping
under the facemask bar and evading the cutting blade. These
forks also help maintain the most appropriate position of
the fasteners for cutting. |
 |
The top
notch of the non-cutting end provides another avenue for gripping
the facemask bar. |
 |
The cutting
blade of the FM Extractor is made of a very durable high-grade
carbon, providing a sharp cutting blade. When the unit is
closed the blade portion of the tool will extend beyond the
non-cutting section. This is to help ensure that the entire
fastener is cut each time. |

Features
and Benefits
 |
The greatest
feature of the FM Extractor is the options that it provides.
In an emergency the FM Extractor provides at least 4 options
for cutting through any given face mask fastener. While other
tools work only on specific set-up and systems, the FM Extractor
crosses the spectrum and provides an option for nearly any
situation that might arise. This is vital when considering
the variability is facemasks, fasteners, and helmets. |
 |
IT WORKS. |
 |
The FM
Extractor has a multi-faceted design that allows it to be
used in more than one way. This provides the user with options
that can be critical in an emergency. If a particular technique
is less than effective in cutting through a given fastener,
simply try one of the other options built into the FM Extractor. |
 |
Durable
construction means that you will not have to replace your
FM Extractor year after year and the high carbon blade will
stay razor sharp. |
 |
Patented
handle design increases mechanical advantage and reduces the
need for grip strength. |
 |
Locking
mechanism keeps the FM Extractor close to protect the blade
from harm and the user from getting cut. |

Frequently
Asked Questions
| Q: |
Why
should I pay nearly three times as much as the Trainers' Angel
for the FM Extractor? |
| A: |
Primarily
because the FM Extractor works. Additionally, the FM Extractor
is made such that the tool will not rust, chip, corrode, or
for any other reason become ineffective with normal use and
practice. The Trainers' Angel will become too dull after a
single practice session. In the long run, when you figure
in the cost of annual replacement of the Trainers' Angel and
other devices, the FM Extractor is your less expensive option.
|
| Q: |
Why
does current literature suggest that the FM Extractor and
the anvil pruner perform equally? |
| A: |
When comparing
the FM Extractor to any other device one must consider the
versatility that is offered by the FM Extractor and the relative
limits of other devices. The anvil pruner will only suffice
under strict circumstances. The FM Extractor's options provide
performance under a wide array of circumstances. Present research
comparing the FM Extractor to the anvil pruner is like comparing
apples to oranges.
|
| Q: |
Why
is the FM Extractor any better than an anvil pruner? |
| A: |
The FM Extractor
provides options! The anvil pruner has one way to be used.
If that way is not effective, the user is out. With the FM
Extractor the user has at least 3 more options.
|
| Q: |
Why
is the FM Extractor better than the Trainers' Angel? |
| A: |
Prior
to the FM Extractor's introduction, the Trainers' Angel was
the only device designed specifically for facemask removal.
However, the Trainers' Angel is last generation technology.
The Trainers' Angel has failed to keep up with changes in
fasteners, facemask designs, and helmet systems. The Trainers'
Angel, for example, can be seriously hampered by facemasks
with bull rings or the newer and harder fasteners. More often
than not the Trainers' Angel is ineffective when used on today's
equipment. In contrast, the FM Extractor has been developed
for use with today's equipment and is an ever-evolving design.
Sports Medicine Concepts, Inc., continuously monitors changes
in equipment and customer comments to ensure that the FM Extractor
continues to function efficiently. New features and designs
will be made as required to ensure that the FM Extractor remains
the tool of choice.
|
| Q: |
Will
the FM Extractor work on the Shock Blocker clips manufactured
by Ridell? |
| A: |
Yes.
The FM Extractor will cut through the Shock Blocker. This
procedure will take some additional time and effort so please
review and practice the procedures beforehand.
|
| Q: |
Is
the FM Extractor's cutting blade resharpenable? |
| A: |
Yes. A simple
store bought hand held blade sharpener will do. Simply run
the sharpener over the blade a few times after practice sessions
to take the burrs off the metal and retain a sharp edge.
|
| Q: |
Is
there a procedure that works better for individuals with small
hands? |
| A: |
Yes. The
FM Extractor is designed to lock onto the facemask bars. When
the FM Extractor is positioned properly you can carefully
use both hands to complete cutting of the fasteners without
fear of the device sliding out of position. Also, ensure that
the blade is not digging into the helmet itself. With practice,
the user will become familiar with the appropriate amount
of force to apply to ensure a complete cut without added resistance
from digging into the helmet.
